Viroqua is located on a ridge in the Ocooch Mountains of Southwestern Wisconsin. It is known as the "driftless" or "unglaciated" region because the ice glaciers didn't reach the area, leaving spectacular ridges, bluffs, valleys and rolling hills. The area features numerous natural resources and outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, cross-country skiing, skating, swimming, and even Morel mushrooms hunting.
Viroqua is the county seat of Vernon County and is conveniently located at the intersection of State Highways 14, 27, 61 and 56. Interstate I-90 lies 30 minutes north of the city. Viroqua has its own airport with a 3500 ft. runway capable of handling twin-engine aircraft and smaller planes. Regularly scheduled air passenger service is available only 45 minutes away in La Crosse.
